I don’t feel at all deserving of the accolades (most of this music is new to me as I hear it), but I am so grateful you find something worthwhile in my writings! I also love hearing back from readers because it’s wonderful knowing there are others out there who feel as strongly about ECM as I do.

Very nice review. The Paul Motian song is actually called “Once Around the Park,” which is from the album 1987 ‘Misterioso’: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/misterioso/id308664985 I heard Moran play it with Mark Helias and Tom Rainey in December at the Stone in NYC.

Thanks for the comment, Steve. The repeat is striking, to be sure, and makes me wonder why so many neglect the potential of its profound effect. Afanassiev’s later recording on Denon is its own beauty (burying the trill even deeper with the sustain pedal), though it may try the patience of some.
