Thank you for such an inspiring review. I have always enjoyed your review, but this time you have introduced me to the music of Erkki-Sven Tuur. ‘Crystallisatio’ has been playing non-stop for 3 days now. Outstanding music! I also really enjoyed your review ‘ECM: A Cultural Archaeology’ a while back. From that review, I took away the EAE and the duo Food. I really wanted to attend the exhibition, but it was not feasible for me to do so. If you have any other ‘electronic, avant-garde, jazz recommendations’, please do share.
Thank you kindly, Tom! So glad you enjoyed the longer pieces. I never know who has the time to read them 😉 As for ECM’s electronic side of things, I would recommend Kurtágonals, Being Dufay, and the classic Power Spot. For jazzier fusions thereof, you can’t go wrong with the two leader discs of Nils Petter Molvær (Khmer and Solid Ether), Jon Hassell’s Last night the moon came dropping its clothes in the street, or Pastorale by Stefano Battaglia and Michele Rabbia. Hope you enjoy these!
Thank you for the recommendations. I have both NPM releases, but I will definitely pick up the other 5 you listed. I am enjoying Eduard Brunner ‘Dal Niente’ this evening.
